Business today reports 6% increase in LIC market share

Life Insurance corporation of India has witnessed 6% increase in its market share since April 1, 2011. It's market share has now risen to 78% which was 72% earlier. The 23 rival insurance companies are holding 28% of the share. The combined market share of these companies has now fallen to 22 per cent during the current fiscal, according to the latest figures.

On a per capita basis, people in India are underinsured: Bain and Company

Bain and Company, one of the leading consultants of the world have concluded a study on the Indian insurance sector. According to them, On a per capita basis, Indians are underinsured, paying annual premiums of just US$48 (around Rs 24000)—little more than half of what Chinese policyholders pay and just a small fraction of the $1,600 (around Rs 80,000) per capita premiums paid by US policy holders.
