 L&T Insurance has forayed into the health insurance space by launching its first health insurance product — My health Medisure Prime Insurance.

The range for the sum insured varies from Rs 3 lakh to Rs 10 lakh. The premium will be based on the sum insured, the age of the senior-most member in the policy, zone of cover, total number of persons covered, and the tenure of the policy.

Additional details help the insurer in evaluating the risk better, and that makes it easier for the insurance companies to fix the prices based on customer's individual profile. Some factors which contribute towards the estimation of price are fuel, policyholder vintage with the company, marital status, claims history and Kilometers used. The demand of allowing insurnce and pension fund to invest in long-term infrastructure funds is expected to be fulfilled soon. IRDA is also considering the raising the investment limit from 10% to 20% in bonds, provide it is exchange-traded. Experts feel that such a move is also helpful in long term infrastructure financing.
